As I have researched my ancestors and tried to create a record of their being and of my link to them, I have come to realize that I should publicize these various pedigrees, the direct lines from which I descend, for the benefit of others. Indeed, much research remains to be done, and current information may change as new information becomes available or is discovered. Therefore, the listing below of some of the pedigrees in my paternal family reflects information that I have at this time but should not be considered as “set in stone.” Since my West pedigree appears in the left margin of each of these posts, it is not included in the list below.

Terry, thanks for your comment. Are you related to any of the ancestors in my pedigree lists?
ReplyDeleteOh my! I was just googling around online, revisiting the Tom Dula legend (the movie was on TV tonight) and I came across your site. I had no idea that a Land wrote the poem! I should have known, as I descend from Curtis Land III. His descendants moved to Edgecombe Ct, NC, then my line moved on to the Kemper Ct area of MS.
ReplyDeleteIt is very nice to meet you, Cousin!

Hello Gnanse,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment. I think that Thomas Charles Land must have been a very interesting person. He certainly had many talents. I only wish that he would receive full credit for the poem which later became the song made famous by the Kingston Trio. The poem is often referred to as a mountain ballad. I've read that it was published in a newspaper, perhaps, in The Raleigh Standard. I hope that some day I may be able to locate the published version. If you haven't already found it, please read my post of Dec. 1, 2011, about Thomas C. Land.
